Day 1
During this brand new tour which is possible only with a special permit you will learn more about the historical buildings inside Thonburi Palace which was built by King Taksin the Great in 1768. His successor, King Rama I. moved the new capital to the other side of the river where it is today, but he placed several important royal family members at this palace. King Rama V. bestowed the palace to the Royal Thai Navy who used it as the Naval Academy until 1944. The Academy building was later remodeled into a Thai style and has housed the Royal Thai Navy headquarters up to the present. The palace received an Award of Merit for Culture Heritage Conservation from UNESCO in 2004.
