Chiang Mai – Chiang Dao – Thatorn – Mae Kok River – Chiang Rai
Depart from Chiang Mai see en-route Chiang Dao Cave before lunch at a good local restaurant. In the afternoon continue to Thatorn, a small charming town on the bank of the Mae Kok River. Visit Ban Lorcha, a Phami Akha hilltribe community center. This community-based tourism development project promotes sustainable, self-reliant development to improve the quality of life of villagers of this Akha Community, and is a model for tourism in hilltribe villages. Later proceed to boat landing and board a simple long-tailed motorboat for a three-hour journey down Mae Kok River, passing tiny hilltribe villages, bamboo huts and jungle scenery. Disembark at Chiang Rai town in the late afternoon.
Day 2
Chiang Rai – Doi Mae Salong – Mae Sai – Chiang Rai
Enjoy and excursion to Doi Mae Salong, located at nearly 2,000 metres above sea level and is famous for its beautiful scenery and home to various hilltribe villages and tea plantations. Visit on the way Yao and Akha hilltribe villages in Mae Chan, then ascending to Doi Mae Salong, passing through beautiful mountain scenery. Enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Thailand, Myanmar and the Mekong Valley. After lunch at a good local restaurant, visit a tea plantation with a chance to taste variety of fresh-brewed green teas. Descend to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the Myanmar border. Here you walk around the local market with lots of opportunities for shopping. Return to Chiang Rai in the late afternoon.
Day 3
Chiang Mai – Golden Triangle – Chiang Saen – Lanjia Lodge
Check-out and proceed to Chiang Saen and visit its famous Golden Triangle. Situated directly on the great Mekong River and the Ruak River, the Golden Triangle is the area where natural borders between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Enjoy a boat trip along Mekong River with short visit to a small Lao village on the riverbank. After lunch you travel down the scenic road along the Mekong River to Chiang Khong and arrive at an eco lodge – Lanjia. Refreshing herbal juice will be served while we’re checking in at the lodge. Then start a trek along a nature trail through scenic mountains. Visit en-route a waterfall and a Hmong village. Later get on bicycle to ride along a country road back to the lodge (a local truck is available in case someone cannot ride) .Dinner and watch traditional Hmong dances at the lodge
Day 4
Lanjia Lodge – Chiang Rai Departure
After breakfast watch a short presentation about the Golden Triangle – its people, culture, custom and ecology – a great conclusion to the memorable trip you’ve done. Mid-morning transfer to Chiang Rai.
