Chiang Rai – Huay Xai (Laos) – Chiang Khong In the morning drive to Chiang Saen to explore the ruins of this ancient city. Continue along the Mae Khong River to Baan Hat Bai, a village of the Thai Lue tribe. Arrive at Chiang Khong at the immigration office to process documents for entry to Laos. Take a boat crossing Mekong River to the town of Huay Xai in Laos. Then continue by local truck to visit an interesting and remote village of Lantan tribe. Explore the village and also visit the Sapphire Mine. Return to Huay Xai and visit the market where shops and street stalls are full of Chinese and Laos goods.

Chiang Khong – Phu Chi Fah – Chiang Rai After breakfast drive up to Doi Pha Tang, a superb observation point of Thai-Laotian border. Then continue to Phu Chi Fah, where a short trek will lead you up to the summit on nearly 2,000 metres above sea level. From the mountain ridge which is a vast grassy plateau extending its reach over the Laotian border, you will see a breath-taking view of the green valleys below and even farther into Laos. Lunch at a local restaurant and drive back to Chiang Rai.
