The infectious, friendly smile of our guide is a beautiful welcome at 06.00h in the morning. First you will see Wat Benjamabophit, and will participate in “Bintabaht” (the alms giving rite) in front of the temple. Each morning at dawn, the Buddhist monks walk in their saffron robes, barefoot and silently through the streets of Bangkok where the faithful wait to place rice, curries or fruit in the monk’s black alms bowls. You will be able to observe this touching, timeless scene as well as participate in the rite.
After, you will visit Wat Benjamabophit or the ‘Marble Temple’, which is very tranquil and peaceful in the early morning hours. The construction of the temple was ordered by King Rama V. after his first visit to Europe and completed in the year 1900. The main chapel is a classical Thai style building, but made of Italian Carrara marble. The contrast between the white marble and the golden decoration of this temple looks especially graceful and elegant.
You then continue to visit another famous landmark in Bangkok, the Golden Mount at Wat Sa Ket. The artificial mountain crowned by a large golden chedi, is 260 feet in height from its base. Construction started under King Rama III. and was completed in the reign of King Rama IV. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Bangkok in the soft morning light from the upper terrace.
The next highlight is the Pak Klong Talad Flower Market. Here you will wander through Thailand‘s biggest wholesale market for all kinds of cut flowers and vegetables. The multitude of stalls selling exotic flowers and orchids lining Maharat Road near the historic Memorial Bridge offer colourful and bustling scenes and are a photographer’s delight.
Then it’s time for a delicious local breakfast with a bowl of noodle soup. It may not sound like a great way to start your day, but in Thailand millions go to work on a bowl of noodle soup every day. The simplicity of this healthy and nourishing aromatic noodle soup has ensured that it is not only a favourite breakfast in Thailand but throughout South East Asia.
