Day 1
Chiang Rai – Chiang Saen
Drive to Chiang Saen to explore the ruins of this ancient city. Visit the majestic Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti by climbing up 383 steps to the top of the hill, Wat Chedi Luang and a small museum nearby.
Day 2
Chiang Saen – Chiang Khong – Chiang Saen
Take a boat trip downstream along the Mekong River with spectacular views of the river bank and continue through scenic countryside to visit Baan Kiew Karn, a hilltribe village of White Hmong located on a hilltop. Lunch. Afternoon return to Golden Triangle mountain with visit en-route at Wat Phra Dhat Phu Kao and a stop at Ban Sob Ruak Village along the Mekong River.
Day 3
Chiang Saen – Mae Sai – Doi Mae Salong – Chiang Rai
This morning you drive to Doi Mae Salong mountain, passing through beautiful mountain scenery. The view from the top takes in a large part of Thailand, Burma and the Mekhong Valley which makes this trip very worthwhile. Visit hilltribe villages and the local Chinese community. Also visit tea plantation with a chance to taste and buy famous green teas. Lunch and depart for Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town facing the Burmese border, to visit the local market. Continue to Chiang Rai.
